Pap results requiring physician interpretation will be performed at an additional charge (CPT code(s): 88141; HCPCS: P3001).
If concurrent testing for HPV is desired then, a separately obtained swab must be obtained and separately ordered. HPV Reflex testing is not available with Conventional Pap Smear orders.

Preferred Specimen
One smear fixed immediately with spray fixative or 95% ethyl alcohol
Instructions
Patient's name must be written in pencil on frosted end of slide(s). Submit in slide container. Provide all patient information using the Quest Diagnostics Cytology requisition. It is important to use the Quest Diagnostics Pap kit and the slide contained in that kit for compatibility with certain automated instruments.

Limitations
This is a screening test only. Specimen collection and preparation affect results.
Clinical Significance
The conventional pap smear is intended for use in screening for the presence of atypical cells, cervical cancer, or its precursor lesions, as well as all other cytologic categories as defined by The Bethesda System for Reporting Cervical/Vaginal Cytologic Diagnoses. Not reliable for endometrial screening.
