This test MUST BE scheduled at least one day in advance. The patient's height and weight information must be given to the laboratory at this time. Overnight fast is required.

Instructions
Do not collect the fasting level until the lactose solution is prepared and at bedside. The patient is given the lactose solution after the fasting specimen is drawn; it must be ingested within 10 minutes of this collection. Lactose levels are then collected at 15-, 30-, 60-, and 90- minute intervals following lactose ingestion.
