D-DIMER QUANT

Message
The D-dimer test is used as an aid in the assessment and evaluation of patients suspected of having disseminated intravascular coagulation or thromboembolic events including pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. The results of D-dimer assay should not be used as absolute evidence for PE or DVT. The test result using a cut-off value of 0.4 ug/ml should be evaluated in the context of all the clinical and laboratory data available to determine the need for additional diagnostic testing to safely exclude or make a diagnosis. Situations/conditions when D-Dimer test is Not Recommended - Moderate/high Pre-test clinical probability - Unexplained hypoxia (pulse oximetry <95%) - Unilateral leg swelling - Recent (within past 4 weeks) surgery - Hemoptysis - Pregnancy - Age ≥ 70 years - Duration of symptoms ≥ 4 days
