Direct Antiglobulin Test

Message
Detects in vivo red blood cell sensitization with IgG Antibodies, complement, or both. If the test is positive it reflexes to two different test IgG monospecific and complement. If the IgG monospecific is positive an Acid Elution is performed to determine if the antibody can be identified. Only red cell antibodies can be identified with Blood Bank testing.

Test Code

Includes
Polyspecifc IgG and C3d detects. If positive reflexes to two separate test for monospecific IgG detection and C3b, C3d detection. If the IgG monospecific is positive an Acid Elution is performed to determine if the antibody can be identified. Only red cell antibodies can be identified with Blood Bank testing.

Methodology
Manually performed

Clinical Significance
The direct antiglobulin test (DAT) is used to detect in vivo red blood cell sensitization with immunoglobulin (IgG), complement, or both. The DAT is useful in the investigation of hemolytic transfusion reactions, hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, and drug-induced immune hemolytic anemia
