Clinical Significance
Bacteria in the genus Legionella primarily cause respiratory illness, i.e., either Legionnaires' Disease, a systemic illness manifested primarily by pneumonia, or Pontiac Fever, a non-pneumonic, influenza-like illness. Legionellae may also cause a variety of other illnesses.
