Clinical Significance
The analysis of drugs in urine is useful in confirming a patient?s compliance with prescriptions provided to them by a physician, as well as detecting illicit or improper use of drugs/medications. Specimen validity testing (i.e. pH, creatinine, oxidants, etc.) is useful in determining whether someone has intentionally tampered with the submitted urine for the purposes of avoiding detection of such use.
