Preferred Specimen
5 mL whole blood collected in an EDTA (lavender-top) tube


Minimum Volume
0.5 mL - volumes below 1 mL should be submitted in a pediatric EDTA tube


Instructions
Do not freeze. Submit the preferred EDTA tubes at room temperature.
Volumes less than 1 mL should be submitted in a pediatric EDTA tube. Specimen must arrive at the referral laboratory within 72 hours of collection in order to meet sample stability requirements. Specimens are accepted <72 hours post collection.
No other preservatives are acceptable. Specify time of day specimen was collected.

Note: It is recommended that the sample be drawn shortly before courier pick up and be received within 24 hours.
