Post Vasectomy Sperm Presence

Message
Seminal fluid (Patient instruction sheet available) Collection: Patients are instructed to return for a sperm count two months post vasectomy and after at least ten ejaculations. The semen specimen can be collected in a clean glass or hard plastic container (condoms are unacceptable) by masturbation after 48 hours of abstinence and delivered to the laboratory for examination within several hours.

Clinical Significance
Since sterilization by vasectomy is not immediate, it takes time for sperm to disappear from the ejaculate and contraceptive precautions must be continued temporarily. The fluid is examined for the presence or absence of sperm
