Clinical Significance
Lactate dehydrogenase is an enzyme with a widespread tissue distribution and increased levels reflect tissue damage. Causes of elevated LDH include neoplastic states (i.e. leukemia, lymphoma, solid tumors), anemia (i.e. megaloblastic, hemolytic), inflammatory and infectious states, disorders of the lung and muscle, renal and myocardial infarctions, hepatic disease, trauma and shock
