Preferred Specimen
Cord tissue segment (8 inches) with blood drained and discarded, and the exterior rinsed with water or saline. Cord segment should be patted dry and placed in a routine specimen cup.

Clinical Significance
This is a broad drug screening method for toxicology significant drugs and metabolites in umbilical cord tissue.
