Other Acceptable Specimens
Throat or rectal swab (1 swab; placed in pink Xpert CT/GC collection kit)
Endocervial (1 swab, placed in pink Xpert CT/GC collection kit)
Urine (first catch 'dirty urine' in sterile cup, or added to Xpert Urine Transport Reagent collection kit)

Once placed in these transport kits, specimens can be submitted at ambient temperatures. Contact laboratory for kits.


Instructions
Unprocessed urine (not added to the Transport Reagent) can be added to the Transport Reagent for testing within 24 hours.

The first 20-50 mLs of a urine void also known as a "Dirty or First void" urine.  NOTE: Prior to urine specimen collection the patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour.

Clinical Significance
The GeneXpert CT/NG test has not been evaluated in patients younger than 14 years of age. The GeneXpert CT/NG test is not recommended for evaluation of suspected sexual abuse and for other medico-legal indications.
