Clinical Significance
Fluoroquinolones are a class of antibacterial drugs used for prophylaxis prior to transrectal prostate biopsy to prevent post-procedure infections. Diagnosis of patients colonized with fluoroquinolone-resistant enterobacteriaceae at least 48 hours in advance of transrectal prostate biopsy allows physicians time to tailor appropriate antibiotics for better patient management and clinical outcome.
