Clinical Significance
Human Platelet Antigen (HPA) polymorphism can lead to alloimmunization that clinically can manifest as neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia or post-transfusion thrombocytopenia purpura. HPA-1 genotyping allows screening for potential neonatal immunization in pregnancy.
