Clinical Significance
von Willebrand disease is the most common bleeding disorder. The diagnosis can only be assured by performing a multiplicity of tests to confirm the diagnosis, and to distinguish type 1, type 2, and type 3 disease types which require different treatment programs. It is essential to measure FVIII activity along with vWF Antigen, Functional vWF Activity by Ristocetin Cofactor and measure Multimeric analysis of von Willebrand Protein to characterize intermediate and high weight forms.
