Preferred Specimen
Maintain specimen at 37° C wrap in heel warmers!
3.0 mL Serum Red Top (No Gel)


Minimum Volume
2.0 mL Serum Red Top (No Gel)


Instructions
Draw blood in a plain red-top tube. Maintain specimen at 37° C until serum is separated from cells. Spin down in a "warm" centrifuge at 37°C and send 3 mL of serum refrigerated in a properly labeled aliquot vial.


Transport Temperature
Specimen must be kept at 37°C until serum has been aliquoted. Serum will then be transported Refrigerated to Mayo.


Specimen Stability
Refrigerated: 7 days


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Gel tube/Separator, Gross Hemolysis, Gross Lipemia, Gross Icterus
