Clinical Significance
This test is used to determine if fetal blood is present in maternal circulation during pregnancy or after delivery. If a feto-maternal bleed has occurred, the percent of fetal blood is calculated and the appropriate number of vials of Rh immune globulin are administered to the patient to prevent Rh immunization.
