Clinical Significance
A fungal infection diagnosis is completely dependent on the selection and collection of appropriate clinical specimen for culture. Proper collection and rapid transport to the laboratory are important in the recovery of fungi. This code should be ordered for specimens that cannot have a smear made: skin scrapings, hair, or nails.
A fungal culture will not be finalized as no growth until after 4 weeks.
