Clinical Significance
An acid-fast bacteria (AFB) culture is done to determine if the patient has
tuberculosis (TB) or another mycobacterial infection. Besides tuberculosis, the other main mycobacterial infections are leprosy and a TB-like disease that affects people with HIV/AIDS.
