Limitations
The results obtained with this kit cannot differentiate asymptomatic carriers. This test should only be used for qualitative detection of group A strep. This test in not intented as a substitute for bacterial culture testing. Culture method is recommended when a test result is negative and group A strep infection is suspected. Test specimens heavily colonized with Staph. aureus can yeild false positive.

Clinical Significance
Group A Streptococcus is the most significant cause of pharyngitis. Early diagnosis and treatment of Group A Streptococcal pharyngitis has been shown to reduce the severity of symptoms and serious complications such as rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis. Conventional culture methods require 24-48 hours for results.
