Clinical Significance
Rotavirus is a major cause of nonbacterial gastroenteritis especially in the very young and the elderly. Detecting the presence of the virus will facilitate proper patient isolation and eliminate possible unnecessary antibiotic treatment. Coinfection with bacterial pathogens are possible.
