Clinical Significance
Mixed venous O2 Sat is drawn from a pulmonary artery catheter (a swan ganz catheter) and includes all of the mixed venous blood returning from the head and arms, gut and lower extremities and coronary veins. It measures the O2 delivery and consumption in the blood returning to the right side of the heart. It also captures the blood before it is re-oxygenated in the pulmonary capillary.
