Message
A negative result does not rule out the possibility of having infectious mono because the antibodies may be absent or may not be present in sufficient quantity to be detected. Grossly hemolyzed samplses will yield invalid results.

Instructions
Separate from red cells by centifugation as soon as possible. Withdraw serum or plasma, label and store at 2-8C for up to 3 days. After 3 days, serum or plasma may be frozen at -20C or below for 1 year.

Clinical Significance
The rapid mono test utilizes an extract of bovine erythrocytes to qualitatively and selectively detect IM heterophile antibodies in whole blood, serum or plasma rapidly.
