Instructions

Collect body fluid in a body fluid collection bag or other sterile container and transport to lab. Refrigerate if transport will be delayed. Note fluid type in order comments or on patient specimen label.

This test is for Rheumatoid Factor measurement on Body Fluids.  For Rheumatoid Factor measurement on Plasma or Serum, order RA.

Clinical Significance

Rheumatoid factor is essentially an IgM antibody that is directed toward IgG. Although it is a non-specific marker, it is associated with autoimmunity and rheumatoid arthritis.
