Collect body fluid in a body fluid collection bag or other sterile container and transport to lab. Refrigerate if transport will be delayed. Note fluid type in order comments or on patient specimen label.
This test is for potassium measurement on body fluids. For potassium measurement on serum or plasma, order K. For potassium measurement on urine, order URK.

Limitations
Cisplatan (Plantinol) can alter potassium levels. This drug is known to treat metastatic testicular tumors, metastatic ovarian tumors and advanced bladder cancer. Also, any cationic surfactant (laxative) is known to alter potassium results.
