Clinical Significance
Body fluid amylase levels are of value in detecting the development of complications, such as pseudocyst, ascites, and pleural effusion following acute pancreatitis.
Concentrations of amylase can accumulate in an exudate in response to esophageal rupture, pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer.
