Any source except blood, fluid, genital, respiratory, stool or urine.
Instructions
Collect specimen aseptically; transport in a sterile container or dual culturette swab in port-a-cult. Avoid swab collections when possible for swabs absorb the specimen and severely reduce specimen volume for culture.
Transport Container
Sterile Container or Dual Culturette Swab in port-a-cult transport tube.
Transport Temperature
RT up to 2 hrs then 2-8 C
Specimen Stability
2-8 C for up to 24 hrs.

Clinical Significance
Anaerobic bacteria cause a variety of human infections. Proper specimen collection and transport, media and incubation are important criteria for the recovery of anaerobes. The results of anaerobic cultures assist the clinician with diagnosis and treatment of patients with anaerobic infections.
