Clinical Significance
The detection of Helibactor pylori is a causative agent of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, and has been associated with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma and gastric adenocarcinoma. Patients who harber the organisms are divided into 2 basic groups. (1)Patients are asymptomatic and are considered "colonized". (2) The second group shows gastrointestinal symptoms and is considered as "infected". Possible routes of transmission of H. pylori to humans are through animals, contaminated water and oral reservoirs.
