Limitations
Positive results indicate the possible presence of the positive drug or its metabolites, but does not indicate or measure intoxication. All presumptive positive results should be confirmed by Gas Chromotography/Mass Spectrometry.
Reference Range
Negative: Drug concentration is below the cutoff for a Positive result and presumed negative.
Positive: Drug concentration is presumptively present in concentrations measuring in the positive
range. All drugs except TCA and Methodone automatically order confirmation testing with
Gas Chromotography/Mass Spectrometry (performed in Toxicology; see confirmation tests for
more information). To request confirmation by GC/MS on TCA or Methadone, contact the lab.
Clinical Significance
A urine drug screen is useful in screening for the presence or absence of several common drugs of abuse.
