CYTOLOGY ORDER - TAKE SPECIMEN TO CYTOLOGY
Transport Container
The liqiud based pap test is transported in the ThinPrep vial.
The conventional spray-fixed pap smear is transported in the plastic slide holders which are provided.
Nongynecologic specimens made be submitted in a leakproof container or a plastic slide holder if spray-fixed.
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Unlabeled specimens will be rejected
Methodology
ThinPrep specimens processed on the T2000 processor. All others are manually prepared by procedure
Setup Schedule
Cytology specimens are processed Monday-Friday 6:00am to 6:00pm
Report Available
Upon completion of analysis, normally 1 - 2 days
Reference Range
Bethesda report format used for pap tests.
Clinical Significance
Cytology specimens are examined for benign, atypical and malignant cellular changes. Organisms will be reported if identified during the process.
