Instructions

Aptima swab - only use swabs provided in kit. Dispose of cleaning swab and place collection swab in transport vial. Those devices received with two swabs will be rejected. Urine - send in sterile cup; no preservatives or sample will be rejected. ""Dirty Catch"" - If greater than 24 hours for transport, place in urine transport device as indicated on vial.

Aptima swab transport device, urine collected in sterile container, urine in Aptima transport device or preservcyt thin prep pap vial.

APTIMA SWAB IN TRANSPORT: 60 DAYS. URINE IN STERILE CUP: 24 HRS. URINE IN APTIMA TRANSPORT TUBE: 60 DAYS. PRESERVCYT THIN PREP PAP: 30 DAYS.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
SWAB- INCORRECT KIT USED, NO SWAB OR TWO SWABS IN TRANSPORT DEVICE. URINE- SENT IN PRESERVATIVE OR DELAY IN TRANSPORT AND NOT SENT IN URINE TRANSPORT DEVICE.

Clinical Significance

Chlamydia trachomatis infections are the leading cause of sexually transmitted diseases in the United States.  It is known to cause cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), epididymitis and proctitis.  It is also the most common non-gonococcal urethritis in men.  If left untreated in women, consequences are severe.  Approximately half of all Chlamydial infections are asymptomatic.
