Transport Container
Serum (gold top) or Lithium Heparin plasma (green top) tube; Do not uncap tube.
Transport Temperature
Room Temperature or Refrigeration

Methodology
Semi-Quantitative Method Using Acetest Reagent Tablets
Setup Schedule
Daily upon receipt
Report Available
Upon completion of analysis
Reference Range
Normal Range: Negative
Clinical Significance
Greatly elevated levels of ketone bodies will depress the concentration of bicarbonate in the blood. The ketone bodies, usually seen in diabetes, also tend to interfere with excretion of uric acid and produce mild central nervous system depression.
