Clinical Significance
The extra-nodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZBCL) of mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) type, which comprise 7% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas, is an indolent disease, involving most often the stomach, where it usually follows chronic gastritis, due to Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection. The t(11;18)(q12;q21) is observed in 20-50% of low-grade MALT lymphoma of the stomach and of the lung, and its presence is often associated with resistance to HP treatment. The API2/MALT1 dual-color, dual-fusion probe is specific for the t(11;18) and its variants.
