Methodology
Fluorescence in situ Hybridization

FDA Status
This test was developed and its analytical performance characteristics have been determined by Quest Diagnostics. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This assay has been validated pursuant to the CLIA regulations and is used for clinical purposes.

Setup Schedule
Set up: Daily; Report available: 5 days

Clinical Significance
Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) test is performed to detect translocation between chromosome bands 8q24 (MYC) and 14q32 (IGH) associated with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and non Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) Burkitt's type. 100-200 interphase nuclei are examined microscopically for the presence of fusion signals for the suspected gene rearrangement. This test is useful for evaluation of suboptimal specimens or when a variant or cryptic rearrangement is suspected.
