Instructions

Note: If a CDC Select Agent (agents and toxins that have been determined to have the potential to pose a severe threat to public health and safety) is suspected, please contact the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute in Chantilly for instructions.

Sputum: Early morning expectorated sputum from deep cough. Instruct patient to gargle with water and cough deeply to collect deep respiratory specimen in a sterile container.

Normal respiratory flora or no growth depending on site.
