Clinical Significance
PAX8, a nuclear transcription factor, is expressed, along with PAX2, in renal cell carcinoma but not in urothelial carcinoma (which is positive for uroplakin III and P63). Other uses include detection of metastatic ovarian serous tumors (as opposed to mesothelioma).
