CSF and serum collected greater than 24 hours apart

Methodology
Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Immunoassay (ELISA) • Nephelometry

Setup Schedule
Set up: Tues, Fri; Report available: 1-5 days

Reference Range
Lyme Disease Antibody Index
≤1.0   Negative
1.1-1.2   Equivocal
≥1.3 Positive

Control Antibody Index ≤1.0
Albumin Ratio <0.0078

Clinical Significance
The Lyme disease antibody index is used as an aid for diagnosing neuroborreliosis. The assay requires paired serum and CSF. A result set of lyme disease antibody index >1.2, control antibody index <1.0, and albumin ratio <0.0078 provides strong evidence of intrathecal synthesis of b. Burgdorferi antibodies and supports the diagnosis of neuroborreliosis.
