In the event of an initial identification of Coccidioides, Histoplasma, or Blastomyces, there will be a reflex to one of the following test codes at an additional charge:
Coccidioides immitis Identification, DNA Probe (CPT code: 87149); or
Histoplasma capsulatum Identification, DNA Probe (CPT code: 87149); or
Blastomyces dermatitidis Identification, DNA Probe (CPT code: 87149)

If additional identification method is required, ITS nucleic acid sequencing may be added at an additional charge (CPT code: 87153).
Yeast Susceptibilities will be performed at an additional charge (CPT code(s): 87186).

Clinical Significance
Fungal infections are most common among hospitalized patients, specifically with indwelling catheters, or who are immunocompromised. Blood culture is a method to detect invasive fungal infections.
