Instructions
Clearly mark time drawn on all tubes. Collect 1 mL serum for each timed sample from a red-top, no additive tube or serum separator tube. Centrifuge and transfer serum specimens to 6 separate, sterile, plastic, screw-capped vials. Transport six samples at room temperature in the same shipping container.

This assay is not recommended when patient is receiving prednisone/prednisolone therapy, due to cross-reactivity with the antibody used in this assay.

Clinical Significance
Cortisol is increased in Cushing's disease and decreased in Addison's disease (adrenal insufficiency).
