Clinical Significance
C4d, a stable split product of classical complement
activation, is a marker of antibody-mediated acute
allograft rejection as well as hyperacute rejection,
acute vascular rejection, acute cellular rejection, and
borderline rejection. Detection of C4d has been used
diagnostically as a predictor of transplant kidney graft
survival and for managing acute rejection.
