Clinical Significance
The management of patients’ use of controlled substances is an increasing focus of law enforcement to ensure that prescribed medications aren’t diverted, and is critical to the successful outcome of many pharmaco-therapies. Urine drug testing for the presence or absence of prescribed medications and illicit drugs is a strategy designed to help the treating physician monitor their patients for compliance with that physician’s directive(s).
