Preferred Specimen
0.8 mL serum, or
0.8 mL bronchoalveolar lavage, or
0.8 mL plasma collected in EDTA (lavender-top) tube, or

Patient Preparation
Patients must be off Plasma-Lyte for at least 3 days before collection of specimen for Aspergillus Ag testing.
Instructions
Serum: Collect serum specimens in serum separator (received spun), or red top tube. Allow blood to clot for 30 minutes, then centrifuge. Pipette serum into a plastic screw cap vial.
CSF/BAL: Submit CSF and BAL in a sterile screw cap container.
Ship on dry ice for next day service. Monday through Friday delivery. Frozen ice packs may be substituted if sample is shipped the day of collection.

Clinical Significance
The aspergillus EIA test is an aid in the early diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis. In conjunction with other diagnostic tests and clinical signs of disease, it is an aid in the effective early treatment of disease.
