Instructions
Two separate plastic transport tubes with 2 mL of serum in each (4 mL total) are preferred but 1 plastic transport tube with 3 mL of serum is acceptable.
Separate serum from whole blood within 24 hours. Freshly collected whole blood may be stored 2-25° C for up to 24 hours before separation. Serum should be transported frozen on dry ice in plastic transport tubes.

Clinical Significance
Hepatitis D Virus (HDV) infection occurs only in association with Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection. A positive result for HDV total antibody may indicate acute infection, chronic infection, or past infection with recovery.
