Preferred Specimen

Biopsy: Heart, Lung, Skin in a sterile collection container, or
Explant: Heart, Lung

Instructions

Stability (from collection to initiation): Refrigerated with wet ice if sent >24 hours after collection.

While specimens may be submitted to the lab at any time, testing runs are initiated at the beginning of the shift. This test is always performed Monday-Friday on first shift. Some components of the panel are also run on first shift Saturday or on second shift Monday-Friday. Specimens must be in the lab by 6:30 a.m. in order to be processed in the same shift.

Specimen Stability

Room temperature: 24 hours
Refrigerated: 7 days
Frozen: Unacceptable

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)

Specimen that wasn’t shipped either on cold packs or dry ice.
The only specimen types acceptable are cardiac tissue
