Reference Range
Negative
Clinical Significance
This assay is a qualitative test for the confirmation of specific IgG antibodies recognizing Taenia solium, the agent causing cysticerosis. Detection of antibodies to any of 6 specific T. solium glycoprotein bands of molecular weights 50,42-30,24,21,18 and 14 kilodaltons is interpreted as a positive result. However, a positive result without reactivity to the 50 and 42-39 glycoprotein bands may reflect crossreactive antibodies induced by echinococcosis.
