Clinical Significance
Detection of Pneumocystis jirovecii DNA by real-time PCR is a useful tool for the rapid diagnosis of Pneumocystis pneumonia. Quantification can be used to gauge effectiveness of therapy. Reportable range is 250 to 125,000,000 copies/mL (2.34 to 8.10 Log copies/mL).
