Clinical Significance
Antidepressants are medications that can be used to treat mild, moderate, and severe depression. These medications may also be used to treat anxiety and eating disorders as well as pain (fibromyalgia and neuropathic). Antidepressant drug testing is intended for use in prescription adherence monitoring of patients prescribed antidepressant medications. Adherence monitoring requires prescribed drugs to be present, and the absence of non-prescribed drugs for these patient populations. Drug testing for prescription adherence can provide information for improvement of patient care. The results of drug testing can often prompt important clinical discussions with patients.
