Clinical Significance
This panel tests for specific IgE antibodies to 22 food and environmental allergens commonly associated with childhood allergies. A positive test result only indicates that a patient is sensitized to the allergen of concern. A diagnosis of allergy should only be made by a medical provider after conducting a clinical evaluation. In this panel, when a whole allergen extract is found to be positive, component testing (which uses individual recombinant or purified proteins) is automatically performed and reported. Component testing may help manage patients with suspected allergy.
