Clinical Significance
Like respiratory allergies, animal allergies pose a significant risk for the development of asthma and rhinitis. Blood IgE tests using whole allergen extracts from dogs provide a sensitive screening method to diagnose pet sensitization. In addition, the dog dander component panel is an IgE blood test using individual recombinant proteins from dogs, improving specificity compared to animal extract assays. Thus, the dog dander component panel helps differentiate an actual dog allergy from a cross-reactive pet allergy.
