Instructions
A Type and Screen must have been performed and a clinically significant antibody identified prior to the titer being performed.
Special Blood Bank Identification process is not required for Antibody Titers. However, specimens collected without the Blood Bank Identification process cannot be used for later crossmatch testing.

Titers are NOT a STAT test. Turn around Time is based on the availability of personnel to perform testing. To obtain information on expected turn around time for a site, see hospital specific lab information on the Banner Intranet.

Clinical Significance
Antibody titration is performed to determine whether a pregnant woman has a significant level of antibody that may cause HDN. Titers are usually requested at regular intervals so that comparative studies can be perfomed.

Antibody Titers can be used as an indicator of fetal health.

Blood Bank will first determine if an antibody is present through the Type and Screen. If this screen is positive, an Antibody Panel will be performed to identify the specific antibody present. If no antibody is detected, a Titer cannot be performed.
