Excised cornea, corneal scrapings, or biopsy
Note: Tissue samples must be eye related and should be in sterile containers
with 2ml of sterile saline to prevent specimen from drying out

Swab of conjunctiva or corneal ulcer
Note: Swab transport with modified Stuart's or Amies
transport media, or eSwabs
Contact lenses in lens solution or in a sterile container


Specimen Stability
For Tissues: Send to lab within 30 mins. of collection
For all other specimens: Send to lab as soon as possible
DO NOT refrigerate specimens.
DO NOT place specimens on ice.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Unacceptable specimens:
Dry swabs
Brain tissue
Water samples
Any other specimens than as described
